Where did Future Focus start?

In 1998 a program was developed for a group of tomato, heavy produce and pineapple growers. It was called 'Future Focus' and it  assisted growers to face the ever changing challenges that industry is being confronted with today.

What has it already achieved?

A good example is the Fruit and Vegetable Industry. Growers have been able to use 'Future Focus' to address a number of issues affecting the profitability and growth of their businesses. For some, this has meant developing their business in new directions.

This may also have meant the need to roll up their sleeves and obtain new skills identified through the 'Future Focus' workshops.

These have ranged from computers, through communication and negotiation skills to business planning. Strategies to acquire these skills have ranged from attending formal courses such as the QFVG "Futureprofit Program", through to self study and discussions with a consultant.

How does it work?

It is an easy-to-use questionnaire that helps growers pinpoint their future direction and then assess the skills they will need to get there. It covers:

  • Business performance
  • Future directions for the farm business
  • Personal skills
  • Strategic planning skills and succession planning
  • Business management skills
  • Farm management skills
  • General farm skills
  • Attitude to learning
